VERY RARE LATE 19TH to EARLY 20TH CENTURY NATI VE AME RICAN EASTERN WOODLAND TRIBE , ALGONQUIN/ WABANAKI INDIGENOUS TRIBAL PEOPLE of EASTERN COASTAL MAINE & SOUTHEASTERN CA NA DA & the CAN AD IAN MARITIMES, ANTIQUE, HANDCRAFTED , DEEP ULTRAMARINE BLUE- VIOLET & WHITE, LONG BEADED, CUT QUAHOG & WHELK SHELL WAMPUM BELT or REMEMBRANCE BELT, with NATURAL, HAND WOVEN HEMP CORD & HANGING CUT LEATHER END TASSLES. [This authentic, original Native American, eastern woodland, indigenous tribal people cut glass, long beaded blue & white flat profile Wampum belt, features natural hemp cord & leather tassel fringe appearing on the ends of the belt, with the beads fashioned from northern Atlantic quahog & whelk seashells]. Late 19th to early 20th century Nati ve Ame rican, Eastern Woodland indigenous tribes (Algonquin & Wabanaki) of Maine & eastern Ca na da Wampum cut shell beaded belts. 16 ½ " full Length (12" Length without leather tassel fringe) x 1 ½ Width. Estate fresh and discovered in southeastern New Hampshire, along the Massachusetts/New Hampshire state border.

From a wonderful collection of Americana, Native American period, cultural artifacts, antiques of various eras and antiquarian books, this Wampum belt was the first of two belts found in the home. It has no visible, noticeable loss, damage, stains or repairs. There appears to be caked mud or silt lodged between some of the cut shell violet and white beads. No attempt has been made to remove this. The cut seashell long beads are a deep ultramarine violet-blue and white, as they appear under normal light, but some of the variegated cut shell, long bead's color turns into a brighter cobalt or sapphire blue shade, when the belt is viewed under natural sunlight or especially bright artificial light.

There's some minor fluctuation in the white cut shell beads as well. These Algonquin and Wabanaki confederation of eastern woodland tribes' of Maine, Quebec, Canada and the Canadian maritime provinces, hand crafted Wampum belts, served as coveted remembrance records of treaties and important historical events of measurable significance to the Native, indigenous tribal people of the North American northeast, acting as evidence of the historical record, often recording the terms of land treaties Natives entered into with the nascent European colonies along the East Coast and in particular, New England.

In estate fresh, very well preserved overall antique condition. A thrilling discovery of an artifact imbued with cultural significance and sublime meaning. Very scarce, especially in this kind of well-preserved condition. Very Good to Excellent overall antique condition.
