The caption beneath read "Grandma Lewman's Indian friend". We don't know anything more about the photograph, but it is stamped Hamilton, Shenandoah, Iowa. The woman looks to be of either Native American descent, possibly mixed race. She is wearing western style clothing and has hair hair in western style fashion.

We are guessing that this comes from a very sad part of US history when Native American children were being forced into boarding schools and forced to assimilate with western culture. The photograph measures 2.5 x 4.15 inches. Please see photos for details.
