This is a wonderful and very early Antique Old West Native American Indian Chief Portrait Oil Painting on canvas, depicting a Plains Indian chief with a feathered headdress (possibly Sioux), holding up his arm and looking out on the horizon, possibly greeting someone in the distance. A long rifle is slung across his saddle in front of him, and he sits atop a stoic brown horse.
In the distance, a desert vista can be seen. This work is annotated, dated and signed on the verso: 1907... Unfortunately, the writing is very faded from age and the names are illegible to me.
Perhaps you know more about the artist or their work? Approximately 18 1/2 x 22 1/2 inches including frame. Actual artwork is approximately 16 x 20 inches. Good condition for over a century of age, with a few small tears and scuffs to the canvas please see photos. This very early Western Americana painting is priced to sell.
