A very fine stunning rare form early Northern Californian basketry originating from either Hupa , Yurok or Karok Indian tribes dating from the early 1900's. The basket is woven from willow shoots and was designed to gather clams or other materials and would allow the water to drain away. These are the kind of old Ethnographic intact specimens that I really love. Note the fancy herringbone pattern edge weave.

Old cordage for suspension shows that the basket was made for use. The basket measures 11 1/2" X 9 1/4" at the top and stands 9 1/4 high and is in excellent condition with no splits damages or repairs noted. T his is an excellent stunning finely woven masterpiece.
