A very fine stunning rare form early Northern Californian basketry bowl or hat originating from either Hupa , Yurok or Karok Indian tribes dating circa 1900 or earlier.The basket features a complex striking design featuring rows of ascending arrows very finely woven(approx 20 stitches per inch)from split willow shoots, maidenhair fern and bear grass. The basket measures 9" in diameter and stands 3 3/4" tall and is in very good condition for its age with no damages or repairs noted, just a great aged patina that one loves to see in early basketry. These are the kind of old Ethnographic intact specimens that I really love. T his is an excellent stunning finely woven masterpiece. This stunning complex museum quality basket displays very well and will make a fine addition to anyone's collection.
