This is one of two great early California baskets we're currently offering from the Pomo, Mono , Yokuts, Pit River and a Wintun tribes. This offering is for a very fine extra large stunning old Californian Pit River tribe Indian bulging burden basket dating from the early 1900's.The basket is woven from willow shoots, split conifer root , dyed bear grass shoots to produce the striking design patterns that encircle the periphery. The basket features mirrored patterns of stepped mountain patterns. These are the kind of old traditionally used Ethnographic intact specimens that I really love.
The basket measures a massive max diameter of 14" stands 12 3/4" tall, some minor expected wear, minor stains and some stitch loss as expected around the top rim (please see photos) as expected with great age and use. T his is an excellent stunning finely woven masterpiece. This stunning complex museum quality basket displays very well and will make a fine addition to anyone's collection. Please check out other current offerings including a great Tlingit, Haida argillite and Kwakiutl totem poles and some great early Inuit carvings. More than just a pretty picture.
