The basket is of twined construction on a carcass of hazel, this overlaid with beargrass to form a light background, and with maidenhair fern used to form the pattern of interlocked arrows in black /dark purple. The pattern is only visible to the exterior, this being achieved by the use of a complicated half twist overlaid technique used by the peoples of this region. This basket is one of the finest and most beautiful I have encountered. The accuracy of construction, fineness of weave and general power and impact of the pattern clearly identify this example as a museum quality piece.
This basket has been in the collection of the British sculptor Henry H. Clyne since the early 1960's. Diameter at widest point: 15cm Height: 9.5cm All items are guaranteed to be genuine and as described.
