Rare OLD Fraser River Stone SEATED SHAMAN HUMAN FIGURE BOWL Northwest NWC Native

What we have here is a Gorgeous Old. Carved Stone SEATED SHAMAN HUMAN FIGURE BOWL. From the upper Frazer River British Columbia Canada, likely Lytton or Lillooet area. Rare old piece, very few of these are known to exist, approximately 100. Made of dark soapstone with good oxidized patina, and with shell inlays....

Good size at approximately 6 5/8 inches tall by 4 3/16 inches deep by 3 1/4 inches wide and weighing 3.2 pounds. This is a wonderful piece with great imagery and details. Stone type and carving imagery style. Is that of the Fraser River in the areas of Lytton and Lillooet.

Where other examples of these stone figures have originated. Stone has an oxidized patina that only comes from age. Shell inlays are hand made, each one different and varied. Areas that are drilled including ear holes, pierced ears, and hole at topnot of head are rough textured internally with tapered shape that is consistent with traditional precontact stone tool drilling techniques. Topnot hole would have likely been adorned with beaten cedar bark or other decorative material. Unusual, underside shows shaman's testicles. Figure displays well with great presence. See book "Images Stone BC" by Wilson Duff for a good selection of other examples of Seated Human Figure Bowls from.
