A very rare old Northwest Coast Nootka Nuu-chah-nulth figural fish seal club circa 1900. Carved from dense hard yew wood that has developed a dark rich patina that only comes with great age. The club depicts a subtle small seal image on the handle with a slight carved twist in the handle. A subtle masterpiece of design, perfectly weighted for the task at hand and feels comfortable to hold. The club measures 14 3/4" in length x 2 1/8" in diameter and is in fine original condition, a doe skin cordage slips around the wrist for safety, it is old but most likely not original to the club.
This fine club is of museum quality , will make a fine addition to anyone's collection. Please check out other current offerings including a great Tlingit, Haida, Tsimshian and Kwakiutl totem poles, many historic baskets d e- accessioned from museum collections including Salish, Haida , Tsimshian , Cowlitz and Tlingit examples. Also some great early Inuit carvings. More than just a pretty picture. FREE scheduling, supersized images and templates.
