This piece was acquired from a private family collection in the Colorado area. It is believed to be of Comanche origin and dates to the pre 1900's. It measures approximately 22 across.
It is made of rawhide stretched over a wooden stick/hoop which is secured with trade cloth. It has many trade cloth drops and many hair drops as well.It likely had many more drops but time has taken all but what is left. Much of the original paint is still visible and overall the piece is in good condition. It has a great amount of wear and tear and was likely used as a battle shield as well as for ceremonies, etc.
