Weight: 1 lb 10.5 oz. This is a strange and thought-provoking petroglyph slab. It was acquired from a retired collector then living in the 4 Corners area of Utah/Colorado.
The fellow said it was in his rural familys possession for many decades, though he did not know where it specifically came from or what the images represent. Same here and at the time I had no reason to doubt the veracity of this elderly gentleman when I acquired this and an assortment of southwestern stone artifacts. The slab clearly was part of a larger panel of some sort. There are extraction marks and grooves along the back of this piece. The images apparently were pecked into the sandstone, no doubt with a hard flint tip. There are several triangular-style figures with various headdresses, clothing and such. Discolored with dark/light patches in areas, this slab has been exposed to both the desert elements and much heat.
Abrasion scratches, dings, side chips. Though it is actually rather beautifully composed and rendered, it is listed with no specific provenance or attribution as Ive been unable to discern such from my decades-old field notes.
