Prior to the opening of these sites, aside from the Native Americans living in the region, very little was known about the society who chose to live hundreds of feet above the valley floor. This stone slab was from that general area. This piece was probably part of a larger panel of rock art from somewhere in the Canyon. It shows a center animal along with a snake-like image in front of it and a strange triangular shaped being at its rear. The value of this piece are the colors still clinging to the stone. While faded and pocked, one can still discern the pigments. Some indication of heat stress. Chinks, dings, nicks along the sides/front of this astonishing petroglyph. A RARE, UNIQUE and special piece of rock art from prehistoric Southwestern Colorado. (The delicate nature of this artifact necessitates a large, padded / reinforced box). The item "PETROGLYPH / PICTOGRAPH (ROCK ART), 19th Century McElemo Canyon, Colorado" is in sale since Sunday, January 10, 2016. This item is in the category "Antiques\Ethnographic\Native American".
