CORN MAIDEN, NORTHWESTERN NEW MEXICO. This strangely evocative rock art on a sandstone slab was found in the 19. Century at the base of a petroglyph panel near the Four Corners area of northwestern New Mexico. This site acquired slab and many other similar items a decade ago.

The incision image appears to portray a figure reaching for cornperhaps the so-called Corn Maiden of the southwest. This is one of the finest petroglyphs yet acquired by this site. Dings, side chinks, abrasions and stone discoloration evident throughout the artifact.
