The design depicts a warrior in the center holding a red shield in his left hand with a small black crescent at the top and decorated with eagle feathers. The warrior carries a vertical pen on his head with a red top. The warrior has just fought two soldiers, killing them with his two hooked spears, visibly decorated with eagle feathers and representing the warrior's belonging to a particular warrior society, probably Cheyenne.
The two soldiers lie dead on the ground and the left one on the ground leaves his rifle. The drawing is not attributable to any specific artist, its origin is from the Lame Deer Cheyenne Reserve in Montana from descendants of the native "lame deer". The drawing is made with natural pigments (drawing pencils, inks of various types) probably from the early 1900s to the whole of 1910.
