The Comanche are a Native American nation from the Great Plains whose historic territory, known as Comancheria, consisted of present-day eastern New Mexico, southeastern Colorado, southwestern Kansas, western Oklahoma, and most of northwest Texas and northern Chihuahua. Comanche are known as Lords of the Plains and were once a part of the Shoshone Tribe. In the late 1600s and early 1700s we moved off from our Shoshone kinsmen onto the northern Plains and then southerly in search a new homeland. Nice old pipe tomahawk with original haft and head. The head is forged and very old.
Head is originating from an old gun barrel. Exquisite batwing cutaways in the blade. This is a classical example of mid 1700's blacksmith technique. The bowl is applied to the eye.A nice engraved style shoulder, squared off, a nice touch! The head is a huge size. The old ash haft is decorated with very old brass tacks and prolific file brandings. The haft is a work of art, museum quality. Superb beaded hide drop, lazy stitched pattern, old seed beads.
The head measuring 13 inches long, the haft measuring 23.5 inches long and the drop is about 19 inches long. From a relative's advanced collection. Thanks for looking and God bless you all!
