Knife and Sheath attributable to the Lakota Sioux nation. Sheath: cm 35 x 9,5 x 2 (inches: 13.7" x 3.7" x 0.8). Knife: cm 29 x 3 x 1 (inches: 11.4" x 1.2" x 0.4). Before that, aquired in 2017 at the Santa Fé - N.
M White Hawk exhibition from American collector. Description : Sheath made of brain tanned deer hide. On the front there is a marvelous quill work dyed with natural two-toned ochres.
Two rosettes made of multicolor quillwork and shaped as spirals decorate the central section and 10 tin cones are hung at the sheath end. The borders are embellished by an embroidery of azure Murano beads - ca. 1850, sewn by animal tendons. The knife is a branded butcher type made in Usa around 1890, with the producer logo engraved on the blade (please watch the close up), now a bit hard to read because of the wear. That is a typical knife obtained by commercial exchanges with white merchants, probably French.
