A fine older Northwest Carved Tlingit ceremonial Raven Rattle carved by adopted Tlingit artist Richard Lavalle. Know for doing carving in the historic style his carvings are masterworks of design and form. This rattle measures 15 1/3" long x 6" and 4 1/4 wide and is in excellent condition for its age. The rattle is inlaid with striking abalone shell inlays and is finely painted.
The hollowed out portions of the rattle are simply amazing, the long extended tongue from the Raven to frog. Note the reclining shaman figure is only held on by the finest of wood margins , one can really appreciate the carver's extreme skill. Look at the photos carefully and be amazed.
