A fine rare old Northwest Coast Nootka Nuu-chah-nulth hand carved and painted cedar model totem dating from the very early 1900's. The totem features wonderful and very rare and unusual imagery featuring transforming wolf human figure , a ceremonial copper, wings on the side with a raven depicted and my favorite part of the totem is the human standing on the back of a diving killer whale. They seem to share the same body and almost morph into each other. The painting on this pole is exceptional to say the least and set this example apart from the many! The totem stands 11 3/4" tall on a rectangular base measuring 3 1/4" x 3 1/3 and is in very good original condition with no damage or repairs noted.
Very rare hard to find totem pole! The totem makes an impressive display item and a fine addition to anyone's collection. Please check out other current offerings including a great Tlingit, Haida, Tsimshian and Kwakiutl totem poles, many historic baskets de-accessioned from museum collections including Salish, Haida , Tsimshian , Cowlitz and Tlingit examples.
