A fine old Northwest Coast Kwakiutl Indian Hand carved and painted yellow cedar totem pole dating from the mid 1900's. The totem features a Thunderbird standing on the world (showing the BC coast) with Human at the bottom with the world resting on his back. This was her most famous pole and was known as the world pole.
The totem stands 10" tall with a 6" wingspan and is in excellent condition with no damages or repairs noted. Painted in classic Kwakiutl colors of red, black and green. Signed in her Native name "Ellen Neel " to the reverse. See illustration # 110 for a totem with identical imagery. A rare chance to own a great early work by one the most sought after Kwakiutl carvers.
