EARLY SAN ILDEFONSO PUEBLO POTTERY BOWL-1930's/ BLACK ON BLACK/ NATIVE AMERICAN
Old Native American Blackware Pottery Bowl San Ildefonso Pueblo Unsigned - Early 20th Century. Very old San Ildefonso Pueblo pottery bowl with traditional black on black geometric decoration. This piece is unsigned, but decorated in the style of Tonita Roybal (1892 - 1945) or Maria Martinez (1887 - 1980).

The painting and workmanship are quite nice, but not as finished as the later pieces made at San Ildefonso. The revival of the ancient black on black decorated pottery was led, during the 1920s in New Mexico, by Maria and Julian Martinez and many of the early pieces by them and others at the San Ildefonso Pueblo were unsigned. AGE: Circa 1920s - 1940s. SIZE: Diameter - 11.25 (28.5 cm) / Height - 3.25 (8.5 cm). CONDITION: Good condition, as shown in the photos and with the following noted: No restoration noted.

Surfaces have some wear and scratches. The rim has some scratches. The bottom is worn from use as you can see in the photos. This piece will be a museum quality addition to any collection of Native American Art and will display beautifully in any Mid Century Modern, Art Deco - WPA Style, Ethnographic, Tribal - Indian, Modernist, Santa Fe - Taos Style, or Arts and Crafts decor. Look carefully at all the photos to view the details and condition of the piece.
