Clearly, this is an old silver piece that is very thinly hand-hammered (the maker would pound and flatten the silver to make as much surface material as possible to engrave and decorate). It measures approximately 9 long and has the curve of the handle that is typically found on northwest coast potlatch spoons (it does not lay flat). At one time, there were four abalone shell (mother-of-pearl) insets but there is only one left that can be inserted if one chooses (in the bag shown in the picture). This piece is unsigned as was common for these older pieces.

When I obtained this piece, it was dark and tarnished--I very carefully and gently removed the tarnish to show its beauty and left some remaining on the back of the handle to show how dark it was.
