Navajo Indian silversmiths, working from 1870 to 1900, learned the stamping of Indian ornaments from Mexican leather workers, rather than from the silversmiths who had taught them. Stampings are usually hand hammered using a handcrafted stamp and include traditional Native American symbols. Royston Turquoise comes out of Nevada and is famous for being only of the few naturally green forms of turquoise in the world.
It is highly prized for its beautiful green hues mixed with brown spider web matrix. It was used by Native Americans and the mine at one point was even owned by Tiffany & Co.The ring features a cabochon cut nugget style Royston Turquoise centerpiece. The turquoise features a mid-green hue with a light green, dark green, and brown internal matrix, as well as natural inclusions. The ring is made from solid Sterling Silver and is completely handmade. It features traditional Navajo Nation designs including a rope twist design around the stone and intricate hand stamping. The band also features a split upper shank.
We can tell that the ring was probably made for use on a Reservation because of the more natural look in design. The face of the ring measures approximately 29 mm long by 20 mm wide. The band of the ring measures 17 mm and tapers to 3 mm. Antique and Vintage jewelry is disappearing at alarming rates.
