Antique SIOUX BEADED HIDE WHETSTONE CASE w TIN CONES & FRINGES, c. Excellent Example - Complete w No Repair. This is an excellent early Sioux beaded hide whetstone case with tin cones and fringe decoration, circa 1880 to 1890s, or so. Case is 12 long including the hanging loop and fringes, and the case itself is 6 long and 2 1/8 wide at the top.
This case features good early bead colors with a different decoration and color palette on each side, as pictured, and the beads are thread sewn onto native tanned hide. Colors are white-heart red, greasy yellow, cobalt blue, medium blue, light blue, and pink. Condition is original and complete with no bead or tin cone loss that I can find, and there is no restoration.
It has a great old patina from age and just the right amount of old dust and dirt. This was found in New England, and it is an excellent example with the added feature of beading on both sides of the case. _gsrx_vers_625 GS 6.9.7 (625).
