A larger crown in oval cartouche with initial below it, I can't quite see it perfectly but it appears to be V or Roman numeral 5. I believe this head is of French origin. Possibly Great Lakes area or Hudson's Bay Company. Ash haft is original to the head.RARE sawtooth design on the under-spine of the haft. The brass tacks are original old tacks from the early to mid 1800's with a nice chocolate color patina. They have square shanks, I pulled a tack to verify their age. All along the haft are many old nicks and wear marks, all original and period. This haft really shows the age. VERY NICE patina all over, really shows its age! The spontoon head with large quillons is a very desirable style. Punch engraving around the perimeter of the head, on one side only.
The bowl is applied to the head, old style. Conservatively dated to 1860 but may be earlier. The haft of the tomahawk is measuring 24" long and the head is measuring about 10" long. Display stand is not included. Please ask any questions you may have. I guarantee this tomahawk to be old and original. Thank you so much for looking!
