Antique Navajo Old Pawn Silver and Turquoise Brooch or Hair Clip. At least 78 years old.
Single oval cabochon turquoise stone is about 5/8-inch in the long dimension. Brooch size is 2 1/4 inches x 1 3/4 inches.Weight is 24 grams (0.85 ounce). Does not appear to be signed, and no other apparent marks. Could be used as a pin, clasped to a pocket, collar, etc. Not polished since I have owned the piece. This brooch is at least 78 years old. In the late 1930s my parents owned Emerald Valley Guest Ranch in Colorado Springs, on Cheyenne Mountain, overlooking Colorado's luxurious Broadmoor Hotel. The ranch accommodated mostly hotel guests who wished to "rough it" for several days. In the early 1940s World War II years they converted the dude ranch into a boys' camp, and packed up their large inventory of Indian jewelry. I acquired the collection many years later. Now it is time for us to downsize. The item "Antique Navajo Old Pawn Silver Brooch or Hairclip, Turquoise Solitaire, 1930s" is in sale since Friday, June 9, 2017.
