Antique Native American Indian Northwest Coast Tlingit Alaska Rattle Top Basket
Decorated with a bold band of repeating diagonal echelons of triangles in red (dyed grass), gold (dyed grass) and purple (either maidenhair fern or dyed grass) (known as the "spear barb" salmon berry pattern) over a stacked striped background of red and purple colored wefts. The rattle top lid is decorated with a swirling design (known as the "fern drawn" pattern) of false embroidery in the same colors, against a background of purple colored wefts. The rattle top lid is filled (from the sound of the rattle) with small seeds or pebbles. Basket is overall in very good condition, with. A very hard to see split that runs above the central purple band about 1/2" down from the rim of the basket body (about 2" L). (I've tried very hard to capture this in my provided photos, but is is difficult to discern). Please see photos to best ascertain condition, and please feel free to ask questions. Basket measures roughly 3" H x 4-1/2" Dia. Please feel free to ask questions. Please see my other Native American listings!
