Antique Iroquois finely quilled knife and sheath. Sheath: cm 25,5 x 9 (inches: 10" x 3,5"). Sheath including laces and tin cones : 65 cm (inches: 25.5") Knife: cm 23 x 2 (inches: 9" x 0.8). Before that, aquired in 2017 at the Santa Fé - N. Sheath: made of brain tanned deer hide.
On the front there is a marvelous quill work. Dyed with natural two-toned ochres.The borders and at the tip of the sheath are embellished by 10 metal tin cones containing horsehair tufts. Knife: is a kitchen type with wooden handle finely decorated with porcupine quill work, ca 1875. Typical knife obtained from trades with white merchants, probably French. Certainly used as weapon for hand to hand combat and hung at the neck by the 2 long deer hide laces finely decorated with white and brown porcupine quillwork.
