Antique Collection, Squash Blossom, Navajo, Blue Gem Turquoise, Circa 1940s, 27. Width: 2.75in, Height: 3.4in. Hopefully the picture says it all. This is an incredible piece of Navajo history. The squash blossom necklace is a symbol of Navajo silver and is the official necklace of New Mexico. You will not find a more impressive squash blossom than this circa 1940s creation. A collection of twenty-four Blue Gem Turquoise stones fill the necklace. Blue Gem is a classic American stone from Nevada and looks amazing against the patina of the silver. This is a Navajo made creation and has twenty blossoms. The silver blossom pieces are filled with a small stamp design that demonstrates the talent of the silver smith, very crisp and precise stamps.
Also, the heavy beads are another indication of the silversmiths advanced skills. Remember, in 1940 the available technology is much different than it is today and that makes this necklace a more difficult task. The classic naja displays four large Blue Gem stones that brings the piece together.
