Antique bronze Dragonfly Double Barred Isletta Pueblo Cross necklace ca 1925
Large copper butterfly measures 4 inches long (10 cm). Strung on leather with 10 small butterflies (1 25 each) and 50 copper beads on each side. The Double Barred Cross also referred to as the Dragonfly Cross was widely used during the early 20th Century and still preferred amongst many Pueblo People in the American Southwest. This large butterfly Cross is the focal point with smaller Isletta Crosses and multiple beads to create a much treasured Necklace with ritual significance. Among the pueblo people the Dragonfly was considered a medicine animal as well as a water animal to sustain life.
