Antique 19th Century Native American Indian Mocotaugan Crooked Knife. Beautiful Antique 19th century Native American Eastern Woodlands Indian Mocotaugan or Crooked Knife. The hand-forged very sharp Crooked steel blade is sleeved within the maple wood handle finely carved in Checkered pattern and secured with copper wire wrap, for strength. This Eastern Woodlands Indian artifact, called a Mocotaugan by the Cree (pronounced mah-kuh-TAW-gun) is also called a crooked knife. It was an anthropologically important, intriguing, and sometimes beautiful woodworking tool typically used to split or carve wood for basket-making and canoe building.
