Very rare and beautiful, 1890's Native American Sioux Indian Bead Decorated Hide Knife Sheath and Knife. This outstanding late 19th century Sioux Beaded Sheath measures approx. 5 3/4" long (including its drop) and 1 1/2" at its widest. The Knife is of the same period and appears to be original to the Sheath. It measures approx 7 1/4" long overall with a 3 1/2" blade.

This wonderful Sioux Indian Sheath is thread and sinew sewn by hand with beadwork decoration featuring white heart red, white, dark blue, and green beads. The entire Sheath is hide and features a buckskin fringe drop with four, original tin coin danglers at the bottom and two tin cone attachments near the throat of the Sheath. There are five additional buckskin fringe attachments along the curved edge of the Sheath. The Knife features a simple, hand carved wooden handle and what appears to be a forged iron blade.

The top of the handle features what appears to be dark dye decoration resembling an head with eyes and hair. This wonderful Sioux Knife and Beaded Sheath came to us from the William Alberta Collection. The Kniofe and Beaded Sheath offered here is unconditionally guaranteed original and of the period. It is NOT a reproduction or modern recreation but an original Sioux Bead Decorated Knife Sheath and Native American Knife crafted in the late 19th century.

The original tin cone and buckskin fringe attachments are intact and sound and the Sheath is 100% intact and 1900% original. The Knife is also in very good condition - the blade does show signs of having been sharpened over the years but is not significantly reduced and both the handle and blade are sound and well preserved. There is some wear and running of the dark dye surface decoration on the handle. All elements of the Sheath and Knife are original and there has been no repairs or restorations.
