Very rare and original, 1880's (or earlier) Native American Lakota Sioux Indian Bead Decorated Hide Fringed Possible Bag. This outstanding 19th century Sioux Beaded Bag measures approx. 14" long including buckskin fringe and 6" wide.

It is made of a rather thick hide - likely buffalo (American Bison). This wonderful Sioux Indian Beaded Bag is sinew sewn by hand with spot stitched beadwork decoration featuring red white-heart and yellow beads in a stripe pattern. There is no wool throat to the Bag and no indication that there ever was one. The bottom edge of the Bag features a buckskin fringe measuring approx.

This wonderful Sioux Possible Bag came to us from the collection of Raymond Woodard Rathbun and his mother Nellie Woodward who opened a General Store in Chadron, Nebraska in the 1880's. Their store was located close to the Pine Ridge and Rosebud Agencies and the pair often traveled to the reservations with a wagon of goods for sale or trade.

They developed many friendships among the Lakota, even learning their language. A copy of Paul's statement of provenance which pictures this Bag will be provided to the purchaser.
