Fantastic example of a fur trade era and Hudson's Bay Company trade item. These knives were carried by trappers and traders of the Hudsons Bay Company and served utilitarian purpose as well as a trade item for any Indian tribes encountered. Original knife and leather sheath, sheath is marked HB 2. Notice there are some small cracks and deterioration on the sheath, this is caused by over 150 years of changes in humidity and temperature causing the leather to dry, shrink, and crack.
This is an excellent indicator of age. The knife handle is tight and secure. The iron blade is a typical shape in this classic trapper knife style. It is all original and un-restored. Originates from a Washington DC estate, a very old estate with ties to the wild west days. The item "1840 Trapper Trader Skinner Knife Original Hudsons Bay Company HB Trade Knife" is in sale since Sunday, June 23, 2019.
